Abstract:
This method is suitable to determine the colour of the sugar in solution for white and speciality sugars that can be filtered by the method described. The colour of the solution is measured at pH 7.0 by use of a TEA/HCl buffer. The method has Official Status for sugar solutions up to a colour of 600 IU. For sugars below 50 IU, the absolute difference between two results obtained under repeatability conditions should not be greater than 3 IU and under reproducibility conditions not greater than 7 IU. For sugars between 50 and 200 IU, the absolute difference between two results obtained under repeatability conditions should not be greater than 9 IU and under reproducibility conditions not greater than 22 IU. For sugars between 200 and 600 IU, the absolute difference between two results obtained under repeatability conditions should not be greater than 44 IU and under reproducibility conditions not greater than 109 IU.
