Abstract:
Traces of the harmful heavy metal mercury can be measured using atomic absorption spectrometry. This method is applicable for the determination of mercury in plantation white sugar at mass fractions above 0.08 mg/kg up to 0.5 mg/kg. In the content range of 0.08 mg/kg to 0.25 mg/kg of mercury in plantation white sugar, average relative repeatability and reproducibility were found to be 18.43% and 11.98% respectively, determined in single laboratory validation. The method is Tentatively adopted awaiting collaborative testing for determination of precision data (reproducibility).
