Method Technique: Conductometry
This method is suitable for the determination of Conductivity Ash in raw sugar, brown sugar, juices, syrups and molasses. The ionised, soluble salts in the test solution are measured using a conductivity meter. The result cannot be directly compared to those of gravimetric ash determination but a factor can be used to provide an approximate value to sulphated ash. For raw sugars of average ash content 0.4 g/100 g, the absolute difference between two results obtained under repeatability conditions should not be greater than 0.028 g/100 g and under reproducibility conditions not greater than 0.084 g/100 g.
