Abstract:
This method is suitable to determine the starch content of cane raw sugar at levels between 300 µg/g and 1000 µg/g. Any starch in the sugar solution is solubilised and iodide/iodate added to form a blue starch-iodine complex. The absorbance of the solution is then measured by spectrophotometry at 600 nm and compared to a standard curve produced using soluble potato starch. The absolute difference between two results obtained under repeatability conditions should not be greater than 7.4 µg/g and under reproducibility conditions not greater than 23 µg/g.
