ICUMSA Method GS1-13 (1994)
Material: Raw Sugar, Molasses
Analytes: Ash
Method Technique: Conductometry
Abstract:
This method is suitable for the determination of Conductivity Ash in raw sugar, brown sugar, juices, syrups and molasses.
The ionised, soluble salts in the test solution are measured using a conductivity meter.
The result cannot be directly compared to those of gravimetric ash determination but a factor can be used to provide an approximate value to sulphated ash.
For raw sugars of average ash content 0.4 g/100 g, the absolute difference between two results obtained under repeatability conditions should not be greater than 0.028 g/100 g and under reproducibility conditions not greater than 0.084 g/100 g.
