32nd ICUMSA Session held as a virtual event – ICUMSA News n°83 – October 2021

On 14th–16th June the 32nd ICUMSA Session took place as a virtual event. In total, 70 participants from 22 different countries registered. The virtual meeting was moderated by the ICUMSA President and General Secretary from a studio at the Bartens’ offices in Berlin. During the meeting 15 reports were presented by the Referees, followed by active and useful discussions. Finally, 50 Recommendations were adopted, which form the basis for the new Methods Book supplement and the work until the next Session. The complete 2021 Recommendations are available at www.icumsa.org. The Proceedings of the Session and the Methods Book supplement are expected to become available in 2022.

During the conference, a virtual Award ceremony was held in which the President honoured Maritta Jacobs, Roger Wood, Jan Maarten de Bruijn and Clive Shelton for their many years of dedication and service to ICUMSA.

The 33rd ICUMSA Session will be held in June 2023 in Vienna, Austria.

New ICUMSA Treasurer

Karen Pardoe was elected as the new ICUMSA Treasurer during the Executive Committee Meeting on 15th June. In this capacity, she will also serve as ICUMSA Officer. Moreover, she joined the Publications Committee.

New GS2 and GS4 Referees

At the 32nd Session it was announced that Karen Pardoe and José Godoy wished to resign from their Referee roles, the result of which was two vacancies for these positions. To find successors, all National Committee Chairs were asked to nominate candidates. Two persons volunteered for the available roles and I am therefore happy to inform all ICUMSA members that Carol Wambolt (USA) has been appointed as the new Referee for GS2 White Sugar and Sebastiaan van Berchum (Netherlands) as the new Referee for GS4 Molasses. I would like to express my gratitude again to Karen Pardoe and José Godoy for their efforts as Referees and their valuable contribution to ICUMSA activities in these areas.

New ICUMSA website

In the last newsletter it was already reported that preparations had started to update the ICUMSA website. ICUMSA Officers and Publisher are working on completing the final functionalities and layout. We aim to launch the new website early 2022.
