Abstract:
This method is used for the spectrophotometric determination of total, soluble and insoluble starch content in cane raw sugar using microwave-assisted neutralisation. The method is applicable to cane raw sugar only as this is the only sample type it has been validated for. There is no collaborative study available for method validation. Instead, single lab method validation (SLMV) was performed in 2020, using two different raw cane sugar samples, to validate the performance of the method. Based on the results of the SLMV, the following precision data were determined: For total starch content in raw sugars of (122.6 to 3333.0)mg/kg, based on relative standard deviation of repeatability, the difference between two results should not be greater than 2.3%. For soluble starch in raw sugars of (122.6 to 3333.0)mg/kg, based on relative standard deviation of repeatability the difference between two results should not be greater than 2.0%. For insoluble starch in raw sugars of (122.6 to 3333.0)mg/kg, based on relative standard deviation of repeatability, the difference between two results should not be greater than 9.4%.
