We are pleased to announce that the 35th ICUMSA® Session will be held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands from 7th to 9th June 2027. Together with our publisher Bartens the Officers of ICUMSA® have already prepared a preliminary program. A welcome reception is planned for 7th June 2027. The technical sessions will take place on 8th and 9th June 2027. An optional sugar factory visit is planned for the afternoon of 9th June 2027. More information will follow in due course.
Proceedings 34th Session and Methods Book Supplement
The Publications Committee are working on the last details of the Proceedings of the 34th Session in Delhi and the new Methods Book supplement. It is expected that these publications will be available for purchase early 2026.
New S7 Referee
Mr. Francisco Miguel Duret (Brazil) has been appointed as the new Referee for S7 (Sampling, Sample Handling and Sample Preparation). Francisco works for Control Union in Santos, Brazil and has a broad experience in sugar sampling and testing. He will take over this subject from Mr. Alan Mead (UK), who resigned after the 34th Session in India. We would like to thank Alan again for his dedication and contributions to ICUMSA® and wish Francisco success in his new role.
Vacancies GS3, GS8 and S2 Referee
Dr. Florian Emerstorfer (Austria) has left Agrana and has resigned from his roles as Chair from the Austrian National Committee and GS8 (Beet Processing) Referee. We are grateful to Florian for his invaluable contributions in his area and his outstanding help with the organisation of the 33rd ICUMSA® Session in Vienna in 2023. Dr. Andreas Georg Degenhardt (Germany) has expressed an interest in the GS8 Referee position. He has served as GS3 (Speciality Sugars) Referee since 2014. The Officers of ICUMSA® support the appointment of Andreas as the new GS8 Referee but any ICUMSA® member interested in this and any other vacant Referee position may also apply. Candidates interested in the GS8 position are requested to notify one of the Officers of ICUMSA® before 1st February 2026. If no other candidates have expressed an interest by then, Andreas will be appointed as the new GS8 Referee. In that case, there will be a vacancy for the position of Referee for GS3 in addition to the Referee position for S2 (Method Format, Collaborative Testing and Statistical Treatment of Data). Persons who are interested in either of these positions or who have a suggestion for a candidate are cordially invited to contact one of the Officers of ICUMSA® for more information.

Karen Pardoe and Dr. Jürgen Bruhns have produced an updated list of definitions, which is published on the ICUMSA® website. Members are invited to review this updated list and send any comments to the Officers of ICUMSA®. The list of definitions will continue to be updated as ICUMSA® Methods are revised or new ones are published.
