Abstract:
This method is suitable for the determination of lead in sugars and syrups. Samples are wet ashed using nitric acid / hydrogen peroxide and analysed using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). The method has Official Status. The absolute difference between two results obtained under repeatability conditions will depend on the quantity of lead in the sample and range from 22 ng/g for samples around 50 ng/g to 57 ng/g for samples between 200 and 500 ng/g. Reproducibility condition differences for the same ranges are 38 ng/g and 156 ng/g respectively.
