Abstract:
This method is suitable to determine the starch content of cane raw sugar at levels below 300 mg/kg. Any starch in the sugar solution is solubilised and iodide/iodate added to form a blue starch-iodine complex. The absorbance of the solution is then measured by spectrophotometry at 700 nm. The absolute difference between two results obtained under repeatability conditions should not be greater than 12.6 mg/kg and under reproducibility conditions not greater than 26.3 mg/kg.
