Message from the President

I am pleased to be able to announce that the Proceedings of the Pune Session are now available. You can order your copy using the order form published with ICUMSA News No. 48 and available on our website. Dr. Jurgen Bruhns and members of the Publication Committee, in particular Mr. John Dutton have worked very hard to produce the Proceedings. I have also to thank National Committees, Referees and Associate Referees for having contributed to the discussions via the Internet and for voting on the various Recommendations.

Several points remain open for discussion and they will be the subject of our debate in the intermediate meeting in Atlanta next year. As far as this meeting is concerned, we have so far received interest from about 50 people representing 17 different Countries. I believe that these figures will increase and I am convinced that the meeting will be successful. Our colleagues from SPRI (and in particular Mary An Godshall) and our General Secretary Hanjo Puke, are already planning the meeting and they are collecting suggestions for the discussions. If you are interested in attending the meeting or have suggestions for items to be included on the agenda, please contact SPRI and/or our General Secretary filling in the forms published in the last ICUMSA News and also available on our website.

We have made some changes to our Subjects, Referees and Associate Referees following the suggestions of the National Committees. Details have been posted to the ICUMSA website. In Atlanta we will have the opportunity of restructuring and renumbering the various subjects. There is one remaining vacancy for a Referee - GS4 – Molasses. This is a very important subject and I hope that someone can come forward soon. All National Committees and other members are kindly invited to contact me with suggestions for this vacancy.

The Publications Committee has not yet finished its work of course! The Committee is now preparing the new Methods Supplement which will contain new and revised methods in accordance with decisions taken at Pune and published in the Proceedings. We hope to be able to publish the new Supplement in the next few months. We will also take the opportunity to restock with the ICUMSA Methods Books which have run low in number.

I would like to remind all members and those involved in the work of ICUMSA that you are invited to contribute to ICUMSA NEWS. Please could all the National Committees, Referees and Associate Referees make contributions for future editions. They need not be longwinded. Please use ICUMSA NEWS to let your colleagues know how you are progressing and to make comments on any matters which affect ICUMSA. The contributions should be sent electronically to the Chairman of the ICUMSA News, Mr. Clive Shelton – cliveshelton@toysafe.co.uk

Finally I am delighted to announce that The Philippines have decided to join us! In accordance with Article III of our Constitution, The Philippines formed a National Committee and have sent me all the relevant documents. The Chairperson of the National Committee is Ms. Jinah T. Cuenca who participated as an observer at the last Session in Pune. Of course we will update our website as soon as possible but till now we can say “WELCOME” to our friends in the Philippines. I am sure they will contribute positively to the work of ICUMSA.
